BATTLE OF THE BANDS: AN UNUSUAL RESULT

Gentle Readers . . . and Maxwell,

I've been thinking that my December Battle of the Bands was kind of a bust. The Trapp Family Singers declined to appear in Canada and the U.K. Some of you said this wasn't your kind of music but voted anyway. A few declined to vote, and that's okay.

Anyway, here are the final results. We can say that nobody wins or that everybody wins (I don't want to be one of those crazy organizations that gives a trophy to everyone so that no one's precious self-esteem is damaged).

Trapp Family Singers          7

Edith Piaf                              7

Annie Lennox                        7

That's our final battle of the year, folks.

Look who's agreed to sing us out.

Infinities of love,

Janie Junebug

  1. Hey Janie,

Aha and a three-way tie for first. Um, yes we were spared the Trapp Family over here in the UK.

I vote for the Muppets song as a tie-breaker.

    Have a good one, eh.

    1. Kisses from Franklin and Penelope to your Penny. I think the Muppets make a good tie-breaker, too.

  2. Thanks for the Muppets. It is very hard to listen without smiling - and I didn't even try.

  3. Happy Holidays! I was too late to vote, my vote would have been decisive! I'll catch you next year!

  5. I'm sorry I didn't vote and the first video didn't work for me either. I'm not sure which version I would have picked although I do like Annie Lennox.

    1. It's okay that you didn't vote. Fishducky, Gary, and I have decided that the Muppets win.

  6. 7-7-7 is a truly angelic result! (as opposed to 6-6-6). And that's the BEST rendition of "Carol of the Bells" that I've EVER heard!

  7. I think they should only give out gold medals at the Olympics, and give them to everyone who's entered.

  8. All my best to you and Pen and Frank (I can do that once a year), and a hurrah for all your battles that seldom catch my tone deaf ear. See you next year. xxoo Joanne

  13. Now that really was unexpected! A good way to end the year, I think, with something unusual. :)

  14. Glad to find a kindred spirit in you when it comes to "participation awards." I was also glad a sacred song made everyone a winner in this case...

  15. JANIE, as pretty much the king of the BOTB ties, I can officially state that ties stink! The first one a BOTBer has is kind of neat because it's proof of an ear for competitive recordings. But after the first tie, the BOTBer knows they can do this thing, and future ties just seem like a waste of everyone's time, including the BOTBer's. (Who would want to go to a sporting event, invest time in it, and then drive home having witnessed a tie? It was ALREADY tied 0-0 BEFORE the game started!)

But having said all that, I can't recall a 3-Way Tie in BOTB. That's quite unique and kind of neat. Once. (Mary is the official record keeper of BOTB, so she could tell you conclusively whether or not this has ever happened before, but I can't recall another instance of it.)

Not sure if you know this already, but if not, let me share something with you for the future:

    [Link> YouTube Region Restriction Checker

By pasting in a video's URL, that site will let you know which countries can access the video. BUT!... if the results say the video is restricted in some countries but NOT restricted in Canada, DO NOT BELIEVE IT! Nearly 100% of the time, I've found that if a video is restricted in ANY country, it is also restricted in Canada, even when the Region Restriction Checker says it is not.

For BOTB purposes, the ONLY videos I post are those where the Region Restriction Checker's results say: "VIDEO IS UNRESTRICTED". Meaning it will play in any country on the planet. Any result anything less than "VIDEO IS UNRESTRICTED" means that almost certainly the video will not play in Canada.

Anyway, that has been my experience over the last couple years.

Merry Christmas to you and yours, JANIE!!

  16. Swedish Chef, Beaker and Animal also do a hilarious version of "Danny Boy." https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OCbuRA_D3KU

I can't remember if I voted in your battle. Sorry if I didn't. Have a Merry Christmas or whatever...
